The first and foremost thing to do when writing
is to decide on your topic. Is it newsworthy? Controversial? And
most importantly is it unique?When
writing, do you have enough content for an entire article? Are your
sources reliable and trustworthy? Plagiarism is another factor to be
careful of. If you are going to take information from other sources,
be sure to reference it correctly.
Being a journalist means that you own the
copyright on your material. The internet
will transform how journalists and writers
make money from their works. Set up a simple site
to showcase your works, it saves having to copy and paste them into
every job application you fill out.
As a journalist, you may have to travel to
various locations, even over seas. Imagine being paid to travel
around the world and write interesting articles and reports.
However a college education is required for
most journalism/writing positions. A degree in Journalism would help
your chances of employment ten fold. Most major publishers
look to graduates to fill their entry-level positions.
However no piece of paper will help
you as much as experience, so start writing as soon as you have an
opportunity.
You'll probably need luck and persistence,
most writers and journalists, start off by being in the right place
at the right time. Keep at it, and never give up! |
