Technical writers generally must possess a degree, generally in Communications and their chosen technical specification such as engineering, business, or science, for example.

Technical Writing is not writing about a specific technical topic such as computers, but about any technical topic. There are a few important points to remember when performing your technical writing job: identify the benefits of the product or service, describe the product/service in language that is not too technical, no jargon!  Don't omit the specific problem the product/service addresses and how it solves that problem.

The increase in prominence of computers has driven the job of technical writer further away from the centralized office, into a home office, telecommuting.
